Okay But Not Fantastic - Olympus Waterproof Digital Camera Critique

By Isabella Walker

I have not had a chance to see if it is waterproof or not after the repair. Does what it's built to do.

The much lower light level means things have to be *still*.

It took acceptable photos in the pool and on a couple of snorkeling excursions. I've since used it on hiking trips when rain is expected and getting near waterfalls. All of my photos taken with the 6020 are perfect, unless I do something wrong. Read the directions and anyone who buys this great little camera will love it and have great success with sharp, clean, well colored photos!

We took it in the pool the next day and noticed it had water in the battery compartment, even with the latch set to lock. Luckily we went back to the room and I had one day left to request a return with Amazon, and since it's defective they paid the return shipping. Hard to rate because we haven't been through all the paces with it yet. However, pictures are clear and my 10 year old son, who it is for, seems to be picking up on the different features quickly on his own.

I do however with there was a view finder so taking pictures in the dark would be easier. This is my second stylus water proof camera. We thought it was just a glitch and moved on. It is amazing, I have taken underwater pictures and dropped it before and it holds up fine. I have even spilled juice on it before and just had to rinse it off. This is a wonderful point and shoot. Startup time when you power the camera on isn't the fastest but it is quick.

I needed something durable and small for taking pictures while out with my toddler. This camera has been through the ringer already when she plays with it! The pictures are great but I haven't tried underwater yet so far its good, but I've had to insert the memory card into my old camera to upload pictures because it doesn't register on MACs. Maybe there is compatible software out there I am unaware of" The iAuto mode rarely turned out a picture in focus and I had to take multiple of the same shot to get one decent one. Although I believe something was internally wrong with my camera, I was NEVER able to get an in focus picture when zooming more than half way in (using either digital or optical zoom).

User manual is in the on-board software that worked, so you always have it with you. Every electric device has some problems but this is still a great camera. It took me 3 calls to tech support to find this out.
