Cinematic Destination Wedding Photography

By Ping Wooten

Where do photographers specialising in destination wedding photography obtain inspiration from, you ask? Well, they look for it in all places - from the unusual sources to the downright mushy references. Yes, they tap into their romantic side for inspiration too. As an example, movies like Only You and When In Rome not just provide them with entertainment but these movies squeeze out their creative juices as well in one way or another. The locations of such films present visual examples of how they can frame their subjects against already attractive backgrounds. They can also use and explore the techniques they spot in their chosen profession.

The aforesaid films and others like them turn out to be useful during their creative process. The amateur destination wedding photographer and professional wedding photographers alike can pick up ideas from the way the directors artistically combine the elements to narrate a story that's engaging and visually appealing at the same time - like how their pictures ought to be. The films used as examples here are all shot in Venice and Rome, two of the ideal destinations where lovers dream to exchange vows at.

The scenes show certain ways of how to frame elements. That means the viewers are exposed to creative possibilities by presenting exactly how things can be done. Movies teach and inspire but they also encourage artists like photographers to continue seeking other ways to capture beauty and communicate by means of images that tell a story.

Movies as they say mirror reality. That explains why we are drawn to them. They don't just give us a break from our realities by providing entertainment for more than an hour. Rather, they touch the souls, change our perspectives and/or affirm our convictions. For a photographer, the learning derived from such sources of inspiration help him or her to further hone his or her craft. Because of this, he or she is able to deliver captivating images whose impacts go beyond serving as documentations of the fleeting moments of life. Instead, the images taken by an inspired photographer offer tangible remembrances of moments which also touch the soul.

Moving images are useful sources of inspiration for the reason that they present things as they are without leaving the viewers to wonder what else they could possibly be. Then again, such images as in the movies are but one of the many sources available and accessible to photographers looking for things which move them to create art through images. And since one too many sources of inspiration can be found, the possibilities for photographers to produce pictures that reflect their inspired spirits are just as endless.
