Learning More About Turban Tying

Turban tying is one technique of covering the head which is practiced in many countries and is a big part of their history. A turban is basically a piece of cloth used has headdress by some groups of people from certain religions or countries. This headwear is widely used in places like Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Kenya, as well as parts of Jamaica, North Africa, Middle East, and Asia.

With various cultures using this clothing, these also have many different variations. The way the cloth is tied and styled may depend on the religion, region, culture, and purpose. These also have different terms on the countries they are used. For example, in India, these are referred to as dastar. Some also refer to this as a pagri.

There are different techniques on how these are tied. Some are intended for men and some for women depending on cultures. Cloth length can also vary based on the variation or style used. Some people use cloths that are formed into a permanent style. In some styles, cloth is sewn into a foundation that is made on top of the head.

For the men, there are certain styles and instances wherein the cloth is worn. An example is the general type which is basically the most common one. The cloth used is much longer which goes around the person's head for seven times. Another style is also intended for use inside the house or when performing routine activities.

Another style usually used by men particularly in Punjab, India is the double wide. For this style, about six meters of cloth are cut in half which are then sewn together on the longer edge making it twice as wide. This makes the entire cloth wider or bigger but will not require a lot of wraps on the head.

Women also have certain styles to use for specific purposes. There is one style for women which uses two layers of cloth with one layer wrapped on their heads while the other layer serves as the outer covering. The first layer is usually three meters and the final layer is longer. Another style for women is one that is used inside the house.

With numerous techniques of wrapping the cloth around the head, people can use some on how to do a certain style. It is a good thing that a lot of tutorials are now accessible. This makes it easy for some people to learn the techniques and their purpose. Tutorials are step by step instructions which serve as helpful guides.

Videos are now available as well which are easier to follow. Some people prefer to watch an actual demonstration on how it is done. It is also better for people to actually see the steps of the entire process. Using the internet today, one can resort to numerous resources when looking for guides on how to wrap the clothing on the head.

Now that tutorials for turban tying are available, people who are interested in learning techniques can get what they need. For some, this may seem like an ordinary cloth for the head but to those who actually wear this, it symbolizes something more. Some cultures wear these as crowns. These headdresses can make somebody of a unique culture stand out.
