Bead Craft Designs Just For Fun And For Income

By Daniel Turbin

It is fairly simple to turn your beadwork into salable products on a small scale, as you will likely give some of your designs away, have others on display around your house, or (in the matter of jewelry) be putting on a few of your best pieces out and about. As word gets out, it's absolutely possible that somebody will ask you to make something for them. This type of natural growth will make occasional earnings and leave you hungering for more, although gleaning occasional earnings for your beading projects is relatively easy, it is significantly more challenging to take it to a higher level and turn your pastime into a cottage business.

I only say this not to deter you from trying, but just to make clear that selling your beadwork for profit on a regular basis is more difficult than you might think. As with anything worth doing, having your beading projects on a paying basis takes persistence and work. With that said, if it's something you're enthusiastic about, I'll walk you through some of the things you should be considering to be able to put your pastime on a paying basis.

If you're serious about earning money with your beading creative ideas, the first, best thing that you can do is not spread yourself too thin. Come up with 3-4 beadwork projects you may execute well and feel reasonably confident you may earn a good profit at. Below, we'll examine some of the more popular beading projects, and their suitability for your uses.

Necklaces: Essentially the most well-known of the beading ideas individuals attempt for profit, and also one of the most difficult to succeed at. If this is where your primary interest lies, then you need to know that in order to succeed, you'll really need to work at carving out a niche for yourself. Try to keep some popular, underlying design to your work. Stay consistent to ensure that your profile has a similar "look and feel." If simple elegance is what you do best, don't wayward far from that in your "for profit" beading projects. On the other hand, if your choice runs to zany, outrageous styles, stay with that. Keep in mind that you'll want to be able to produce your designs in quantity, so keep your patterns simple but unique. A big order, but by researching the market, you should be able to look for a niche.

Bracelets: A smaller market than necklaces, however, these projects can still be difficult to break into. A very common niche in the bracelet market is the "mother's bracelet". A populated market now, but if you have an innovative approach, that particular type of beading projects could be profitable indeed!

Earrings: Yet another wonderful type of beading projects, and this one lends itself nicely to earning. Once you've perfected your patterns, you can typically produce a number of pairs of earrings a day, and some capacity for mass production is vital to profitability. Again, however, earrings are a crowded market, therefore your beading projects will need to have some unique aspect to them in order for you to find profits.
