Since they have trainings and specialized education for both areas, they are most capable in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for all health issues of women.

A gynecologist is a doctor that specializes in the care of women who are about to have babies and women who wanted to have an offspring. An obstetrician, on the other hand, is a doctor whose concern is to provide medical attention to women to maintain their overall health. Sometimes, the doctor also performs necessary medical interventions or early delivery to protect the fetus.

Other gynecological obligations of the doctor is to prevent or diagnose infections that affected the reproductive system or the urinary tract of the patient who wishes to be pregnant. They are the ones that give out pieces of advice on how to prevent women from being infected with sexually related diseases.

The prevention and diagnosis of cancer cases in women also part of their duties. The most common cases of cancer are those that affect the breast, ovaries, and various parts of the reproductive system. The maintenance of the health and pathology of the ovary is also part of the duties of a gynecologist. Therefore, they are also the doctors that treat and prevent the onset of ovarian cysts. Common issues unique to women such as menstruation and menopause are also included in the many responsibilities of the GYN.

Pelvic exams are the most common form of annual exams performed on women to monitor reproductive health. These preventive tests are also included in a series of test that comprises of palpation and cervical smears to look for signs of cyst formation, breast exam, and STD testing. Also, there are bimanual and speculum exams performed as added precaution.

Consultation meetings are also part of the day of an OBGYN. Most of the patients that go to consultations are couples who wanted to learn more about planning of families and pregnancy and females with issues about their health and have not consulted any medical professional since. These consultations are also a venue where doctors can give their patients recommendations on the prevention and possible treatment of diseases.

The day of a medical professional is not complete without filling up of paperwork related to their profession. All procedures and prescriptions as well as diagnosis of every patient should be recorded and updated after every visit. These records are used by the doctor to keep track of the progress of the patient and as reference for the next appointment. Most professionals have assistants that help them keep the records.
