The Home Theater System: What Does It Offer?

By Sami Hamza

Home theater systems, since their arrival in the markets, have become one of the hottest selling products in the world. It is certainly worth noting therefore, that they have become very popular. Now, there are many different types of home theater systems available in the market. As home theater systems have expanded in terms of technology and features over the years, their impact on the home TV watching experience has grown.

The impact that home theater systems have on people's lives is not only positive, though. This is because, just like everything else in the world, a home theater system will also have its pros and cons.

A home theater system certainly allows a person to enjoy the ultimate TV watching experience. A good example of this is the fact that the majority of people that own such systems see a reduction in the time they spend in cinemas and sports fields. In fact, if set up properly, a home theater system can easily mimic the experience of watching a movie on the big screen or watching a match from the stands.

Moreover, there are many new options available to users because of the advancements in home theater technologies. For example, the majority of home theater systems found in the world today offer sound modification options. The Samsung Home Theater HT-E5500W is a good example of such features. The custom equalizer feature in this system allows people to manipulate the sound output to suit various situations.

There are other devices such as the multiple listening modes of the Onkyo HT-S3500 Receiver, while the YPAO system of the Yamaha RX-V373 Receiver allows the device to sense the acoustics of the room before modifying the sound output. What these types of features mean is that a user can simply modify his system's sound to cope with poor sound quality in the actual signal or even poor acoustics in his room.

While the advantages of home theater systems are considerable, there are still some disadvantages that can actually sour the entire home TV watching experience. A person must understand that the home theater system is designed to offer an overly grand experience.

This means that a user would not be able to watch anything at a lower volume without the speech clarity suffering. This is evident in both the Samsung HT-E5500W Theater and the Onkyo HT-S3500 Receiver. However, this is a very small problem that can be dealt with by adjusting the equalizer to sort out the speech clarity.

Another disadvantage of home theater systems can be that they are particularly difficult to install, if the user is not technology savvy. The Yamaha RX-V373 Receiver can be taken as ideal proof of this. This system exhibits major connectivity problems mainly because installing it is a complex procedure. The installation of this system is so complex that the user might not even realize that he has not done it right.

Different models of home theater systems exhibit different types of advantages and disadvantages, with many of them overlapping. The reason why this happens is that some manufacturers try to resolve one flaw while others focus on other flaws.
